We grow and hand-pick every bottle of Piru at our family vineyard in Canyonleigh, in the cool western reaches of the NSW Southern Highlands. Our Southern Highlands wine range centres on crisp Pinot Grigio and elegant Pinot Noir, shaped by cool nights, slow ripening and the devotion of a small family operation.

“Piru” is a Murrinh-Patha word — an Aboriginal language of Australia's Northern Territory — for the giant Stringybark trees. They're the trees that watch over our north-facing vineyard at Canyonleigh, and they gave us our name. The word came to us from one of our daughters, who spent several years living and working in an Indigenous community in the NT. Today, Piru is run by Richard and Vivienne Walsh, with all three daughters pitching in — including one who designed the logo and the labels you'll find on every bottle.

Two thousand trellised vines, picked carefully, basket by basket. It's slow, it's social, and it's the only way we know how to do it.

Piru Vineyard is a small family vineyard in Canyonleigh, in the western NSW Southern Highlands. Our vineyard is home to Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir grown in a cool-climate setting.
Piru Vineyard currently produces Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir, including our 2026 Pinot Grigio and 2023 and 2024 Pinot Noir releases.
