PIRU VINEYARD · CANYONLEIGH, NSW
Cool-climate Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir from a small family vineyard in western Southern Highlands.
Two grape varieties, one north-facing hillside, two thousand trellised vines. Every bottle of Piru is grown and picked at our family vineyard at Canyonleigh in the cool western reaches of the NSW Southern Highlands. Crisp Pinot Grigio. Elegant Pinot Noir. Both shaped by cool nights, slow ripening, and the kind of attention only a small operation can give.

“Piru” is a Murrinh-Patha word — an Aboriginal language of Australia's Northern Territory — for the giant Stringybark trees. They're the trees that watch over our north-facing vineyard at Canyonleigh, and they gave us our name. The word came to us from one of our daughters, who spent several years living and working in an Indigenous community in the NT. Today, Piru is run by Richard and Vivienne Walsh, with all three daughters pitching in — including one who designed the logo and the labels you'll find on every bottle.
Read Our Full Story →Every harvest at Piru is brought in the old way — by hand. Each year, family, friends, and local residents come down to the vineyard to pick alongside us. Two thousand trellised vines, picked carefully, basket by basket. It's slow, it's social, and it's the only way we know how to do it.
